Immigration, The Madonnas, and Politics: An Afternoon With Angelica Salas
“We slipped into the country like thieves, onto land that was once ours.” So writes Brando Skyhorse, author of the national bestselling novel, The Madonnas of Echo Park. SURGE (Student United in Reaching Goals in Education) in conjunction with the CSULA One Campus, One Book committee presents Angelica Salas, Executive Director of CHIRLA (Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights of Los Angeles,) who will discuss the status of immigration and politics in the U.S. A student panel will also be on hand to highlight key immigrant issues in The Madonnas of Echo Park and how the novel relates to them.
