Resistance Training Tips
Center Guidelines
- Possession of a towel is required at all times
(spare shirts, bandanas, or paper towels are not acceptable). - Work out attire required
(the following types of clothing are not permitted: denim, cargo shorts/pants, dress
shoes, open toe shoes, sandals etc). - Bring your own lock.
Bags must be stored in locker rooms or outside the Fitness Center. Lockers are for
use only while the occupant is present at the Fitness Center (locks remaining at the
end of the business day will be cut and belongings removed). Guests are discouraged
from bringing any property of value to the Fitness Center; the Fitness Center assumes
no liability for items that are lost, stolen, borrowed or broken while being stored on
the premises.

Classes Offered
- ABT
ABT is short for Abs, Buns, and Thighs. In ABT you will be able to shape and
strengthen your Abs, Buns, and Thighs using kettlebells and dumbbells. The Group
Fitness Class instructor will give you an intense workout in the boot camp style class. - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Learn essential grappling and self-defense skills using techniques like takedowns,
pins and submissions that can be used by anyone regardless of skill level. - Body Sculpt
Body Sculpt is a full body work out targeting specific major muscle groups. Each class
is designed to help shape, firm and sculpt the body through bodyweight exercises
and resistance training. - Body Work
Train your body head-to-toe using circuit style training, resistance equipment and
interval workouts. - Boxing
Whether you are new to boxing or have experience, all skill levels are welcomed.
Boxing and exercise are what you can expect in this class. You can work on building
cardio, learn basic footwork, or practice punch combinations. - Circuit Training
At Circuit Training you can expect to endure a full 50 minute class of high-intensity
circuit training. Put your body through a great workout utilizing dumbbells,
kettle-bells, and body bars. - H.I.I.T
High-intensity Interval Training for those who want a physically challenging workout.
The class is designed to elevate the intensity of workouts to take your game to the
next level. - Hip Hop
Our Hip Hop class is a fun class that will teach technique, dance moves, and
choreography at different levels. Come join us for a fun evening of Hip Hop. - Jiu-jitsu
Jiu-jitsu is a Japanese martial art based on close quarter combat. Jiu-jitsu features
effective grappling while an emphasis is placed on self-defense and ground control. - Kettle Spin
Push your cardiorespiratory endurance and get a full body workout at the same time.
Spin Class goes beyond the bike and features full body exercises set to an interval
style of circuit training with Kettlebells and body weight exercises. - Kick Boxing
Kick Boxing class is designed to welcome new and experienced enthusiasts to a
martial art using hand and leg strikes. Proper techniques in movement, clinching and
strategy will be employed along with some conditioning training. - Latin Dance
Latin dance is a class that develops Latin dance steps such as Salsa, Bachata,
Merengue and Cha cha.. - Muay Thai Kickboxing
In Muay Thai you can challenge your skills in combat with strikes and clinches. Come
in to learn and refine your physical and mental skills in this unique form of
martial arts. - Pilates
Pilates is a core workout that focuses on strengthening the stabilizer muscles
(muscles in the center of the body). Pilates incorporates control, concentration and
advanced stretching through a full body work out. - Spin
Spin is an interactive cardiovascular focused class on a spin bike that also features
core exercises. Ranging from light to challenging, you can choose your own intensity
and enjoy an upbeat style of teaching. - Tai Chi
Tai Chi is a low-intensity, non-impact, mind-body class that utilizes minimal
equipment. Learn and practice gentle free-flowing movements that focus on reducing
stress and improving your health. - Yennergy
Yennergy is a new combination style workout that incorporates Vinyasa yoga flow and
circuit training. This training practice is used to increase flexibility, stability
and strength. - Yoga
Back by popular demand, this mind-body based class combines stretching exercises,
controlled breathing, and relaxation to improve your fitness and manage your stress.
Yoga is a low intensity non-impact total body workout. - Zumba
Take the "work" out of workout. Zumba is a mix of low-intensity and high-intensity
moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. Fitness classes are a
fun and effective way to exercise for all skill levels.
FAQ
- The Xtreme Fitness Center is located in the basement level of the
University-Student Union.
- To register for a membership, students fill out a consent form, once the
consent form is filled they can turn it into the front desk and review the top 3
rules of Xtreme Fitness with a staff member. Finally, the student will scan their
hand into the system with a staff member and they will be all set.
- There is no cost to sign up at Xtreme Fitness for all currently enrolled full-time
students who have paid the U-SU fee. If you are not sure you can check by
visiting your GET account and navigating to Student Services
Account Inquiry Activity. - Current Cal State LA staff and faculty may sign up for $30 for 1 month, $80 for 4
months, $180 for 1 year and please note that it’s CASH ONLY. - Please make your cash payment up on the 3rd floor in Admin 306 prior to
activating your membership down at Xtreme Fitness.
- Xtreme Fitness will be closed in observance to all campus holidays and campus
commencement. During the Winter/Spring/Summer break Xtreme Fitness will
be open at 7:00 AM and close at 6:45 PM
- Currently Xtreme Fitness does not offer Alumni and community memberships.
- Unfortunately, Xtreme Fitness does not offer a sauna/steam room.
- You can work on your cardio with treadmills, ellipticals, upright bikes,
steppers and recumbent bikes all from Life Fitness. - You can also use selectorized and plate loaded machines made by Life Fitness
and Hammer Strength to work on muscular strength and endurance. - Or work out with the free weights which include new Troy Dumbbells, IGX
barbells, plates, benches, squat racks, and a smith machine. - Finally, if you can't find something you are looking for, you can also check out
equipment such as jump ropes, weight lifting belts, resistance bands, boxing
equipment, and much more at the front desk.
